Pelini Says QB Competition Likely Armstrong's to Lose
As we inch closer to the Husker football season, Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini says the quarterback competition is looking good. Pelini spoke to media members earlier this week at Big Ten Media Days.
While all signs point to Tommy Armstrong, Jr. taking the reins, Pelini believes the other two quarterbacks on the roster will have much to say about who starts this fall.
“I would say because of his starting experience, Tommy has a leg up going in,” Pelini said. “Johnny Stanton and Ryker Fyfe are tremendous talents. The kids did very well in the spring and I think it’s going to be an open competition. Like I said, I think when we line up day one it’ll be Tommy to walk out there and take the first snap.”
Armstrong completed 52 percent of his passes last year, throwing for 966 yards in eight appearances as a freshman. He threw nine touchdowns along with eight interceptions.
Nebraska will open the regular season Aug. 30 at home against Florida Atlantic. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. on KBBN 95.3 FM.
