Verlie Edith Haumont Larson was born on May 21, 1919 north of Broken Bow in the two story sod house located on her Grandparents farm to Ernest P. and Florence May (Love) Haumont. She grew up south of Broken Bow attending Sargent Valley grade school and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1939. After graduation she returned to her Grandparents farm to work for them as a housekeeper and cook. After a few years she became employed as a teller at the Security State Bank working there for a number of years.
On November 19, 1946 she was married to Alfred Larson. The couple lived a short time in Broken Bow and Verlie continued to work at the bank. They then moved to Cliff Table Community west of Merna where they farmed for three years. In 1951 they bought their farm south of Broken Bow, where she lived until becoming ill. She has spent the last couple of months at the Golden Living Center in Broken Bow.
Verlie was very active as a housewife doing farm chores, canning and freezing produce, gardening, making jams and jellies. She also had lots of hobbies crocheting, knitting crafts, and socializing with her neighborhood clubs and Christian Women’s Club.
