LVC girls' semis go down to the wire
BROKEN BOW- The LVC girls’ semifinals featured without a doubt the best of the best in the LVC.
In the girls’ semifinals, #1 seed Sandhills/Thedford held off an aggressive Arcadia team 57-51. It was much closer than that as the Lady Knights held a slim advantage at 28-22 at the break. Both teams would swap the lead several times in the second half with Arcadia taking their final lead at 49-48. The Lady Knights responded with strong backcourt pressure and pulled away down the stretch and knocked down their free-throws.
Michaela Miles had 12 points for the Lady Knights, while Taylor Marten added 10. Arcadia was led by Sapphire Sillivan with 19 while Shayla Trotter added 13.
The other girls’ semifinal went to Ansley 56-45, but it was much closer most of the game.
Ansley powered their way with a quick moving offense early jumping out to leads of seven and by as many as nine early in the game. Litchfield would claw back into the game in the second quarter as they outscored Ansley 14-12 making it a 28-24 Ansley lead at the half. The Lady Trojans came into the third quarter and went on a 7-0 run to make it 31-28, but Ansley would strike back to re-gain the lead for good by the end of the third quarter at 40-35. The Lady Warriors picked up the defensive pressure and forced Litchfield into some costly turnovers. Ansley also cashed in with points off of those turnovers to break away and take the game.
Katie Drake couldn’t miss as she scored 24 points for Ansley. Siera Rohde added 13. Litchfield was led by Taylor Pickar with 14, while Alivia Wardyn chipped in 10 points.
Ansley shot 68 percent (17-for-25) from the free-throw line, while Litchfield shot 80 percent (8-for-10).
Ansley (16-2) faces Sandhills/Thedford (16-3) in the championship Monday night at 8:30 p.m. at Broken Bow High School.
