Twin Loup and Sandhills/Thedford win in boys' LVC semis
BROKEN BOW- In the LVC boys’ semifinals Thursday night, it was Twin Loup advancing over South Loup 35-30, while Sandhills/Thedford beat Mullen 61-27.
Twin Loup avenged their early season loss to South Loup by playing their style of basketball. It was a close game throughout as both teams were tied at nine after the first quarter. Twin Loup pulled ahead in the second 18-13, with only Jack Gibbens and Guy Fenske scoring. South Loup’s 13 first half points came from Aaron Stryker, Zane Ellis and Tanner Cline. The Wolves won with their defense as Stryker accounted for 22 of the 30 points. South Loup just couldn’t manage any offense out of the rest of their team.
Fenske finished with 12 points while Gibbens finished with 10. In the end, Twin Loup was able to get more production from other players as they took the game 35-30.
In the first game of the night Sandhills/Thedford asserted themselves over Mullen for the third time in less than a month. After Mullen tied the game at 2-2, Sandhills/Thedford scored 21 in a row to make it 23-2 in the second quarter. The Knights pushed the lead to a 30 point deficit in the third quarter and eventually ran away 61-27. The Knights played lights out defense and Mullen struggled to maintain possessions throughout. Mullen turned the ball over 24 times, with the Knights cashing in on several points off turnovers.
Tyler Lee led Sandhills/Thedford with 17 points while Cole Taylor had 15 and Matt McLeod added 14. Mullen was led by Allan Elliot who scored seven points followed by Tye Spies who had six.
Sandhills/Thedford (13-4) advances to play a Twin Loup (11-7) team that beat them in the holiday tournament in Dunning back in late December.
