Haymakers Sweep Indians In Home Finale

The Cozad Haymakers earned a doubleheader sweep of the Broken Bow Indians in their final home game of the season.

The Lady Haymakers defeated the Lady Indians 56-45. Cozad jumped out in front 31-19 at halftime and were able to withstand a second half comeback by the Lady Indians thanks to a great night at the free-throw line.

Cozad drained 21-of-26 free-throw attempts in the game. Ellen Laird led the Haymakers with 15 points and connected on 9-of-10 at the line. Kaylea Reyes and Emily Reyes each chipped in 11 points. Kaylea hit all eight of her shots at the foul line while Emily was 3-of-4.

Broken Bow was led by Halie Jones, who had a game-high 19 points. She finished the night 7-of-9 from the free-throw line. The Lady Indians converted 15-of-23 attempts at the foul line. Sami Gaston added eight points while Krisha Scott finished with seven.

Cozad finishes the regular season 8-12 while Broken Bow falls to 2-18.


The Cozad boys fell behind by as much as 10 points but were able to take control late in the game for a 69-52 win over Broken Bow.

The Haymakers held a 23-22 advantage at halftime, but came out firing in the second half. In the second half Cozad scored 46 points and converted four 3-pointers. A lot of Cozad’s offense came off of offensive rebounds. In the game, Cozad out rebounded Broken Bow 34-26.

Cozad had 11 different players get into the scoring column. Jake Paulsen led a balanced attack with 10 points. Colin Wetovick and Jacob Stallbaumer each finished with eight points. All of Stallbaumer’s points came in the fourth quarter.

Marcus Miller had a game-high 25 points for the Indians but struggled to find much offense outside of Miller. Tanner Johnson added seven points while Josey Evans and Jordan Lemburg both finished with six points.

The Haymakers improve to 13-6 while the Indians slip to 6-15.
