Broken Bow City Council met Monday afternoon
City approves Park Board's recommendation for a 25-meter pool
Broken Bow citizens will get a chance to vote on a new 25-meter pool in the next election. The Broken Bow City Council approved the Park Board's recommendation for the 25-meter pool during Monday's council meeting. Councilmember Mike Evans stated, "The Park Board researches this pretty thoroughly and I don't have enough knowledge to vote against what the Park Board recommends. Councilmember Scott Spanel explained the Council should present to the public the option that has the best chance of passing because even if the issue passes they are still looking at 2012 for the pool, that date is getting into the "danger zone" according to Spanel. Spanel continued by saying they cannot afford to put an option out there that will not pass. The Council agreed the majority of people they have spoken to are for a 25-meter pool. City Administrator Tony Tolstedt stated he would start working with the engineers and bond company to provide real cost numbers to the public. In other city council news, the Council approved the liquor license for Bow Food Pride. Randy Kennedy of Bow Food Pride stated they are not looking to have a fully stocked liquor store; they are looking to sell beer and wine to their customers as a convenience. The Council approved the One & Six Year Plan and the lot split request of Mead Lumber. Mayor McMeen appointed Tony Tolstedt and Dennis Brakeman to the NMPP Member's Council and Tony Tolstedt and Lisa Spanel to the MEAN Management Committee. The Council also approved the change order for sludge storage and standby power for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. The next Broken Bow City Council meeting is set for Friday, February 19 at Noon.
