NAMI-National Alliance on Mental Illness, meets every first and third Monday of each month, excluding holidays, at the Prairie Pioneer Center, from 7:00pm-8:30pm, persons with mental illness and their support persons are welcome at these meetings. "Catch the Reading Bug" Summer Reading Program 2008. The Broken Bow Library is now offering three story times, grades 3-5, Tuesday's at 2:00pm, Preschool-2nd, Friday mornings, 2 classes either 10:00 or 11:00, all children regardless of age, invited for Thursday afternoons at 2:00pm for special speakers, and we've added movies for all children on Wednesday's at 2:00pm. Participants earn prizes by reading or being read to for 30 minutes each day. A child can earn a prize each week and if a child turns in 6 reading sheets, they are eligible for a grand prize and a special summer reading t-shirt. The program is open to all reading levels and is free to all children. It all starts May 30th, so come and "catch the reading bug" at the Broken Bow Library!!
The Broken Bow Tree Dump's Summer hours are Monday through Saturday, from 10:00am to 12:00, and 1:00pm-5:30pm.
Home Health is doing free Blood Pressure and Blood Sugars through the use of a grant from the Cliff Luther fund at the Prairie Pioneer Center every third Thursday of every month, starting December 20th, from 11:00-12:00noon. If you plan to stay for lunch please call the Prairie Pioneer Center and let them know.

The Broken Bow Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) group will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday
mornings of each month, September through April, from 9:00am-11:30am, at the Broken Bow United Methodist Church, 1000 South 3rd Ave, Broken Bow. All mothers of preschoolers welcome! If you're expecting a baby or have a child Kindergarten age or younger, please join us. childcare is provided and refreshments served. Take some time to make new friends with other moms. The Broken Bow High School Senior Art students will have their Senior Art Show on display at the Broken Bow Library, from May 6th through May 14th. A reception for the student artists will be Thursday, May 8th, from 6:00-7:30pm, at the Broken Bow Library.
The St. Mary's Altar Society will be having a bake sale on Friday, May 9th, in front of the Sargent Post Office, from 8:30am-11:00am. Come early for the best selection of pies, cakes, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and much more. The proceeds will be used to buy bibles for our religious ed classes.
The 2008 Custer County Bike Rodeo will be held on Monday, May 12, from 6:00-8:00, at the Callaway High School. All ages welcome to participate. Test your skills on the obstacle course, learn bicycle safety and traffic rules, and get your bicycle licensed. Make sure to bring your bike, your helmet, and make sure the helmet is the correct size and adjusted correctly. If you do not have a helmet just bring the bike. The Loup Valley Road Riders Annual Spring Fling, co-sponsored by the Sargent Lions Club, will be held on May 17 & 18th. On site camping available, motel rooms available, UNMC Eppley Cancer Mobile Screening Unit Onsite Saturday with complimentary screenings. Donations being accepted. Join us for a weekend of fun, food, and fellowship. Rain or shine~all forms of transportation welcome. We are NOT responsible for accidents. Victoria Springs SRA Annual Special Events~The Free Fish & Free Park Entry "Kid Fishing Day", held annually at Victoria Springs. This year's event will be held Saturday, May 17, drawings held from 10:00am-6:00pm, for kids and adults, donated by area businesses. Enjoy a relaxing day of picnics, playgrounds, and fishing. Win a Holland Apex Stainless Steel Grill, raffle tickets can be purchased from any member of the Loup Valley Road Riders of Sargent, $5.00 each or 3 for $10.00. Proceeds from this raffle will be donated to the Eppley Cancer Research Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Winner will be drawn at the Annual Spring Fling, on Saturday, May 17, need not be present to win.
A benefit to defray medical expenses for Gerald & Connie May of Callaway, will be held on Friday, May 23, from 8:00-11:00, at the Callaway Community Center. A concert & dance will be held featuring South Loup Sunrise. A free will offering will be taken and "silent auction" of "May" baskets. Connie has been in the hospital since February. Connie is currently the Co-President of the Callaway Lions Club, co-founder and member of the Callaway Kite Flight, and Gerald is a retired employee of the Custer County Department of Roads. The Ansley Class of 1978 is planning a benefit to help defray medical expenses for Mary Jo Slingsby, to be held on Saturday, May 24, 2008, at the Ansley High School Gymnasium, at 5:00 pm. The event will begin with a pork or beef supper and auction to follow at 7:30 pm. Mary Jo is suffering from a yet unknown medical problem and the family has had to make several trips to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota without a diagnosis.
